A 4x8 box would have been too big so the "tub" was made at 6' long leaving a handy 2' of space on the front for the items that do not necessarily have to stay dry like coolers, water jugs, etc. The axle was widened to accomodate both the larger tires and wheels and also widened to accomodate building the "tub" out wider than 4'.
